Behind The Lens

Location
The photo was taken in perfect aurora conditions in Iceland in march 2015. Kolgrafafjörður was perfectly calm and still and the reflection was perfect to snap this photo when the sky exploded.
Time
We had been out shooting aurora near Grundarfjörður Iceland and when we arrived in Kolgrafafjörður the conditions were perfect. This photo is taken at 22:50 on march 17 2015.
Lighting
In these night shots we have to boost up the ISO and use long exposure.
Equipment
It was taken on my Canon EOS 5D mark III with 16-35 f/2.8 II lens. I used a tripod as the shutter was open for 13 seconds.
Inspiration
Kolgrafafjörður is a place I often visit as it is in my near surroundings. The aurora forecast was looking good so I went out hunting for aurora with these brilliant results.
Editing
I did a little retouching in lightroom and photoshop. Nothing out of the ordinary.
In my camera bag
I usually have two cameras and 4 lenses in my bag. I'm currently holding Canon EOS 1D mark II and Canon EOS 5D mark III wich I used during this shoot. The lenses I use are 16-35, 70-200, 50mm zeiss, 21mm zeiss and Tamron 150-600
Feedback
Patience is a virtue as the aurora sometimes disaapears just as suddenly as it shows up. Pretty unpredictable. Use a tripod and warm clothing.
