Location
This photograph was captured in the midnight sun at Suðurárbotnar Iceland. It's located in the Icelandic highlands and to get there you have to travel by jeep over some rough terrain and bumpy roads.Time
I pressed the shutter button right after midnight as the late july sun had just crawled under the horizon. The Icelandic summers tend to have beautiful light and in june around summer solstice the sun is above the horizon all night.Lighting
I travelled there with the intention to capture the sunset and mother nature did not let me down. The sunset was stunning and I spent a few hours there in complete silance with nothing but the sounds of nature and running water. The weather was perfect.Equipment
I used a tripod and shot this with my Canon EOS 1DX markII camera with Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8 II USM lens. The lens is at 16mm and the shutter speed at 0.6. Aperture at f/11 and ISO at 50. I'm pretty sure I also had a Lee filter equipped in this shot.Inspiration
As I said before I travelled to the highlands as my family has a cabin near. It was still about a hour and a half drive to the location on a specially equipped jeep to get there. My inpiration was just to capture the stunning sunset in these magnificent surroundings.Editing
I did some post processing in lightroom and photoshop but nothging out of the ordinary. A little bit of clarity, adjusting the black and white levels and hightlight and shadow levels. Sharpening and adding a watermark. In my camera bag
I have upgraded my gear and now I carry Canon EOS R5 and Canon EOS R6 cameras with RF 70-200L, RF 15-35L and RF 24-70L lenses. I also have Canon EF 85mm f/1.2 L and Carl Zeiss 50mm f/1.4 and recently Canon RF 800mm f/11Feedback
My advice is patience. Be patient when going for sunset and aurora images as the right moment is often very rewarding.
