👉 Capturing the Aurora Borealis requires careful consideration of equipment and settings. A fast, wide-angle lens is crucial; something like a 14-24mm with a large aperture, such as f/2.8, is ideal for encompassing vast landscapes and allowing sufficient light in during low-light conditions.

👉 Optimizing camera settings is also vital. Start with an ISO around 1600, adjusting as needed, and use a slower shutter speed, between 5 to 25 seconds, to effectively capture light. Setting the lens to its widest aperture is essential, and since autofocus may be unreliable in such conditions, manual focus on a bright star or distant light is recommended to ensure sharpness.

👉 Lastly, a sturdy tripod and a remote shutter release or the camera’s timer are imperative to avoid camera shake during long exposures. Given the unpredictable nature of the Northern Lights, patience, preparation, and checking weather and aurora forecasts are key. And don’t forget to dress warmly!
