Behind The Lens

Location

This was shot from our local pier in Paignton Devon UK. Whilst watching a couple of surfers. The mist came in quickly and made for some wonderful light. Its a great place to sit and watch what is going on. With some great opportunities to take some interesting shoots.

Time

This was taken early on a summers evening. I was walking along the local promenade, and noticed a couple of surfers enjoying the big waves, caused by high winds that day.

Lighting

There was a bit of a storm that evening. It was quite early and the light was very good. Saying that within a few minutes of spotting the surfers, a thick sea mist was blown on shore. This created a pink haze along the beach. There are some interesting light scenario's with mist, glare and reflections to cope with.

Equipment

Used a Canon 7DMkii with a Sigma 18- 250 lens. Which is my every day walk around set up. No tripod was used just hand held.

Inspiration

I was just out for a walk to watch the storm that was blowing up. Just as I got to the pier I noticed a group of surfers enjoying the wave. having never tried to shot in a sea mist. I took the opportunity to try. With a bit of knowledge, and a lot of luck came up with this image.

Editing

post processing consists of auto adjustments in elements 12 and to add a watermark. The reason being is that I am pants at Photoshop.

In my camera bag

I always pack my trusty 7DMii with my fav lens Sigma 18-250 along with all the usual bits like spare batteries ,cleaning kit, note book and pencil. Also a spare lens for what ever else I intend to shoot.

Feedback

Folk would be able to find this activity along any seashore. Always be alert to any opportunity that should arise . I myself tend to use the AV mode whilst walking about with auto ISO the other setting controlled by me.
