This Hippo was just beyond the clean glass wall at the St Louis Zoo. What a friendly look....

Location
This photograph was taken at the St Louis Zoo during a visit to Missouri at the end of June and into early July, 2015. The Hippo was curious about the human with the black box and tube.Time
It was taken from a darkened viewing area into the well lit outdoor habitat for the hippo.Lighting
Natural lighting. A small reflection is visible on the right side of the photographEquipment
Handheld, used the Sony Alpha 7R camera with a Sony 24-240 mm lens. the lens was set to just over 40 mm on this full-frame sensor camera.Inspiration
It was an awesome view that I had to record. The hippo kept dropping under the surface of the water, and when underwater he closed his eyes and 'plugs' closed his nostrils.Editing
I used Lightroom and Photoshop to process the photograph, some clarity added and sharpened moderately. In my camera bag
In 2017 I shoot with both Sony A7R M2 and Sony A9 camera bodies. I do a lot of Macro shooting using the Sony FE G 90 mm f2.8 Macro lens. Earlier, I used a Sigma 105 mm OS EX Macro lens, often with a Sigma EX 2x teleconverter. I shoot with Sony GM and G lenses and recently added the 12-24mm f4 and the GM 100-400mm lenses. The latter works very well with Sony's 1.4X FE teleconverter. I like the GM 24-70 f2.8 for street photography and the 70-200mm f2.8 for portraits.Feedback
