I love this! Born in California. Miss the poppies so much. Thank you for a day-brightener!

Location
A local garden centre near my work in the UK plants up areas to demonstrate new techniques or showcase new plants. The year this was taken they had planted a wild flower meadow which consisted almost entirely of yellow poppies at the time this was taken.Time
Slap, bang in the middle of the day - my lunch break from work.Lighting
Lying on the floor with the camera shooting towards the sun to get the light through the poppy petals, careful placement was needed to avoid glare.Equipment
Canon EOS 40D with Sigma 10-20mm wide angle lens.Inspiration
I was looking for a different angle on the flowers to avoid just taking a record shot. Lying on the ground looking up towards the sky gave a "worm's eye" view and contrasted the colours against the blue sky.Editing
I don't do a lot of post-processing with my shots preferring to do the work "in camera" where possible. Just a little saturation boosting and sharpening was needed for this image. In my camera bag
At present, kit consists of a Canon EOS 7D and various Canon and Sigma lenses.Feedback
Experiment with viewpoints - get down low or up high. Don't just shoot from eye level.
