Nice shot! Bull Island is one of my favorite places in all of SC, such an incredibly beautiful and diverse island!

Thanks so much for the nice comments. I love Bull Island, also. It's the first place I've been that's unspoiled.

simple in composition, sublte and totally believable in the range of colors, overall, it is elegant. hope to see more like this.

Location
This photo was taken on Bull Island located in Charleston County, SC. Bull Island, also known as “Bulls Island”, is an undeveloped barrier island within the Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge.Time
This is my favorite image. It was taken just before sunrise on a cold early Spring morning. We had just taken a very cold and long boat ride to get to this unspoiled paradise.Lighting
I was walking down the beach and noticed how beautiful the light was coming from behind storm clouds and rushed to get my gear set up before the light changed. With sunrise captures like this the light is fleeting and you have to be able to move quickly or everything can change in a split second.Equipment
I used a Canon EOS 6D DSLR with a Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM lens, a medium ND graduated filter to even out the light. Since this camera's longest exposure time is 30 seconds, I used a Promote Control to help with the exposure times.Inspiration
I was looking at all the skeletons of tress and drift wood on the beach and I looked up and there it was: the picture I wanted. The skeletons were aligned just right with the background of the beautiful colors of the sunrise. I quickly set up my gear and before the light changed I grabbed this photo. I knew after I left the beach that day that I had something special.Editing
When I got back to my computer I transferred the photos I had taken that day. After combining the three exposures in Adobe Lightroom, I adjusted the exposure and color. I then transferred the photo to Photoshop and processed the black and white levels and the photo was subjected to more processing in Topaz Adjust, Sharpen and Denoise. In my camera bag
I pack as much equipment as I can get in the bag. I know this might not be the right way to do it, but I want to be ready when that perfect photo is in sight. My backpack pack usually contains my EOS 5D Mark IV body, a Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L , EF 17-40mm f/2.8L and if it fits I'll squeeze in a EF 70-200mm f/2.8L. My backpack may contain several ND filters and batteries.Feedback
You must be patient and when you see something you think is special be ready to set up in an instant. Don't panic and breath slowly so you'll get the exposure and other parameters just right. DO NOT GIVE UP! It's out there waiting for you!
