Location
This photo was taken from my back garden. It was my first go at taking a shot of a blood mood and had no idea of what settings to use. It was also the first time I had used my new 150-600mm Tamron Lens.Time
My whole family stayed up, sitting out side in the freezing cold so my wife and I could take photos of the blood moon. This particular photo was taken around 10:15pm. I took a photo every minute for about 10 minutes trying different settings. This was the best of the 10.Lighting
When I decided to try and take this photo, my aim was just to get one that was halfway decent. I had taken photos of full moons before, but as I previous only had a 18-200mm lens, the moon was always a little bit small.Equipment
I used a Canon EOS 60D, with a 150-600mm Tamron lens, mounted on a tripod and used a shutter release to take the shot.Inspiration
As it was a rare occurrence, both my wife and I decided it was worth trying to capture.Editing
I cropped the photo a little, but no other post processing was involved. In my camera bag
When going on a photo shoot, I always ensure, I have my 18-200 mm Canon lens, a Canon Extension Tube EF 12 II and I usually mount the Tamron 150-600mm onto my Canon EOS 60D. I generally keep my tripod in the boot of the car, so no matter where I am I always have it with me.Feedback
Patience is the key here. Blood moons don't happen all that often and I believe the next one is quite a way off. I used ISO 6400, f/10, Exposure Time 1/2 sec at 600mm. Exposure Bias was set to 0 and metering was set to Pattern.
