Love that he was wearing red. It really added to the color of the photo.

Location
This was taken in an old building in downtown Spokane, WA. This sculptural welding artist was loaned this space to work on a large commissioned piece.Time
I would say this was around 9-10:30pm.Lighting
The sole light source was the welding arc.Equipment
Canon 5D, Tamron SP 28-105mm, tripod.Inspiration
The artist wanted some shots of himself working. I just had fun with exposure length to "stretch out" the sparks into nice trails of light. I was thinking "extreme light-painting!"Editing
Levels and saturation adjustment in Lightroom followed by some sharpening in Photoshop and some softening of the background. In my camera bag
As much as I can carry. Usually, a Canon 5D Mk II, Sigma EX 17-35, Canon 24-70L, Sigma 120-600 and various filters, flashes and light modifiers.Feedback
Lock down your tripod and vary your exposure from 1/30th to 1 second. Trying to produce too long of light trails results in a blurry overexposed subject.
