Behind The Lens

Location

Beacon Hill, Leicester

Time

It would have been at about 2:00 in the afternoon.

Lighting

Not really. I don't use lights so this was available lighting.

Equipment

It was taken with my Samsung ST200. I always have it with me. The battery on my Fuji was charging!

Inspiration

She did. I love what happens to her when we hit the high ground. She always wants to go higher. I also love the countryside - such a mix of rocky and pastureland. It`s dotted with villages and the city is not far away, but you`d never know it.

Editing

Almost never do.

In my camera bag

My camera, sometimes a tri- or mono-pod but they`re fussy to work with and the shot I want is almost always gone by the time I get the camera on. So, I`ve been trying to learn to use my body as a tripod as well as possible, use my breathing, try not to shake. In this case, I would have been crouched down, so my elbows would have been on my knees.

Feedback

My focus was on her; her reaction to being at the highest point. Crouching down to take the photo from her viewpoint was important as well. Know where you want your focus to be and decide what`s important to the story you`re telling. In this case, because she was the story, the beautiful landscape she was surveying was unimportant. I used F5 with an exposure of 1/1000, ISO 200 because it was cloudy with some sun. I could have used an F11 or so to get more depth of field, but that would have been a different photograph.
