Location
This photo was taken in the Valle Caldera in New Mexico. It is a great big expanse of land in the Jemez Mountains. I was fortunate enough to have spent a weekend in the bunk house that was available to rent at the time. The bunk house is now an office for the Preserve staff. The ladybug was on one of the Penstemons I was taking a photo of. I highly recommend a visit to the Valle Caldera.Time
It was in the morning around 8AM after taking some sunrise photos. I started seeing insects and humming birds so I started taking some close up shots.Lighting
Natural sun lighting in the morning.Equipment
I used a canon 50D with a Canon 100-400L lens. I think I used a tri-pod and used the self-timer on the camera.Inspiration
It was nice to see the Ladybug going about on the Penstemon and the red with the green background was nice.Editing
Yes, some punching up of color with Lightroom. In my camera bag
I usually carry a Canon 80D now with a Tamron 18-400. It is a good starting point and then I go to the other lenses in the bag. I usually carry a 28-105mm, 10-22mm, and a 50mm prime in my bag. These lenses usually cover most if not all situations I usually shoot. I sometimes pull out the heavy Canon 100-400mm if I know I need that to get up close. I have also been carrying some extension tubes and a Canon 500D close up lens for doing macros. I don't remember if I used the 500D close up lens on this photo.Feedback
When the light for the panoramic or sunrise photos isn't so great, start doing some close up shots as the extra light will help.
