Location
I took this photo in my front yard in Washington state.Time
I had went outside in the later evening early summer so the nights still got cold. The sun had not went down completely yet but the air had a chill and this little guy was cold thus staying very still.Lighting
I had two people holding LED lights for me to improve the lighting seems how it was starting to get dark out already. This photo is actually a combination of a few photos put together to get the best light from each picture.Equipment
I used a Sony to take this picture and a tripod it has been a while however and I can't remember the specifics. I also had two people holding LED lights to get the lighting exactly where I wanted it.Inspiration
There really wasn't any inspiration I love taking nature photos and dragonflies generally move so often it is hard to get a good picture. This one was cold and not moving much so I knew it was my chance.Editing
This photo is a combination of 3 or 4 pictures taken using a tripod to keep the framing the same. We then used LED lights to move around the dragonfly to get the best lighting. All these pictures were then stitched together to get the best light from each one into one final picture. In my camera bag
It completely depends on where I am going. I usually only have my camera and a lens or two, which ones varies by where I will be.Feedback
Keep your eyes open for opportunities and don't pass them up when they present. I have never had the chance to get another photo like this with a live dragonfly.
