Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at the 2014 Airshow at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage Alaska

Time

Took this shot about noon.

Lighting

This shot was taken in natural light on a mostly cloudy day.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D300s with a Nikon 28-300 telephoto, shot it free hand at focal length 250 and ISO 200.

Inspiration

What inspired me was all the different types of aircraft, but when the old WW2 war birds were flying by it was hard not to photo them. They look and sound incredible.

Editing

I shoot in RAW so I do a bit of post processing at the end of the shoot. I usually ad a touch of clarity and boost the color a bit to try and look as they were when I shot them. I try to keep my post processing as close to the real thing as possible.

In my camera bag

On this shoot I had my Sigma 150-500, sigma 55mm, 2 extra batteries, circular polarizer filter and a cleaning cloth for the lens.

Feedback

I usually shoot propeller planes at f8 or f11 so I have more clarity in the entire shot and I shoot in Shutter mode with my speed set around 1/250th so there is still motion on the propellers. If your shutter speed is to fast then the propellers will be stopped without the blur of motion.
