What a stunning picture. The focus shown by the bird in it's determination to catch it's prey is matched by the sharpness of the story captured by the photographer. Well done!!

Nothing really to say about the lighting on this shotEquipment
Nikon D300S and a Sigma 150-300mm lens. I did not use a tripod or flash on this photo.Inspiration
I was watching a couple of eagles feeding on some herring on a beach. They would fly by and land next to the herring and I got this eagle as it was dropping in for a landing. I tried several times to get a fairly close up shot but was unsuccessful at doing so. Either they would not land where I was hoping they would so I could get a close photo or they would just fly by and land to far away. I was about to give up on this when this eagle came close to where I was sitting and landed fairly close to me.Editing
Since I shoot in RAW I usually adjust the highlights and maybe add a bit of saturation along with a bit of sharpening. I try to keep my photos as natural as I can.In my camera bag
I usually carry my Nikon D300S, Nikon 28-300mm lens, Sigma 17-50mm lens and my Sigma 150-500mm lens. 2 spare batteries, Nikon SB 910 AF flash, chain pod to help steady when hand holding, 4 extra extreme 8 GB sandisk memory cards, Nikon MC-36 wired shutter/timer release, RFN-4 wireless shutter release, extra AAA batteries, circular polarizer filter, ND 4 filter along with micro fiber cloth to wipe lenses.Feedback
Just have patience, learn the behaviors of the wildlife you are trying to photo and take lots of shots every time out on the field. Try to take photos that are not usually seen such as action shots, expressions and unusual behavior. Get that shot that one does not usually see in photo's.
