Location
I took this photo in south central Alaska on the central coast on the Prince William Sound.Time
Shot this in early April about noon.Lighting
The lighting was front lighting on a partly sunny day so it was fairly easy getting a focused shot with a high shutter speed do to great light.Equipment
I shot this free hand with my Nikon D300S with a Sigma 150-500mm telephoto lens. I shot it on ISO 200, f5.6 with a focal length of 220mm. I did not use a flash for this one.Inspiration
I happened to be where there was several Eagles feeding along a beach on a washed up fish carcass. It is really easy to sit and just watch these beautiful birds, so being able to capture their actions was just a special time. Hard to forget days like these and hard not to continue searching for more opportunities to document these wonderful birds of prey.Editing
I do very minor post processing with Lightroom. I shoot in RAW so I mainly look to make sure that my exposure is correct and do a bit of touching up on contrast and color. In my camera bag
I usually carry my Nikon 25-300 telephoto, Sigma 17-50 f2.8 wide angle and my Sigma 150-500mm. Tripod strapped to my backpack, wireless shutter release along with my Nikon MC 36 release. Circular Polarizer filter and ND 3-10 filter. Micro fiber cloth to clean lens an camera.Feedback
I find it hard to give advice to so many great photographers on here but I will say what I do. I try to find the best advantage points when I come up on an opportunity to photo Eagles. I stay pretty much in one place so not to scare the eagles and let them get used to me being in close proximity. I shoot on continuous focus and have my focus button separate from the shutter button, this just seems to work for me so experiment and see what it is like. I also try and focus on the eyes at all times, so make sure when you have the opportunity to take a lot of shots. The more shots you take the better chance you will get that one great shot you dream of. I hope this helps
