Location
I took this photo in my backyard before the next mowing! I had just bought my macro lens and the weather was too cold to go find a bug! I had always wanted to take pictures of a dandelion ( a good one- my Canon point and shoot wasn't doing the job). I looked out into the backyard and AHHHH, (angels singing), there he was, a beautiful dandelion waiting for me!! I took numerous and finally got a good one!Time
I took this photo in the early evening, lots of shadows in my yard. It was cold and I was down on the ground! It paid off!Lighting
The lighting was going fast, being early evening. Lots of shade due to other homes and trees that keep their leaves year round. But, apparently there was just the right lighting for this one shot.Equipment
The equipment I used was my Canon Rebel sl1 and my macro lens 100 mm. I did not use a tripod because I didn't own one yet. I got down on the ground and practically held my breath! No flash was used either. All natural light.Inspiration
I had seen photos of dandelions for years. I always wanted to get a good picture of one. My little Canon point and shoot camera was a great camera- some of my earliest photos on Viewbug are from that camera. However, it can't get as close as the Macro lens!! When I bought that lens, it was all I could do but wait for the sprouting of that first dandelion!Editing
I used my photo editor program that came with my camera to intensify the color and sharpness. In my camera bag
I carry all my lenses with me- my telephoto 250mm and my macro. Along with the basic lens that comes with the camera. I also make sure I have lens cleaner and an extra battery and charger with me. I also carry a couple of filters- the UV and the polarizer.Feedback
To get this shot, luckily it wasn't windy. The sun was going down, which made for a beautiful, dark background that makes the white fronds of the dandelion pop! A table top tripod might of made the shot easier to get- I held my breath and pushed the button carefully. Take multiple shots and one of them will turn out! (and luckily the ground was dry)!!
