I took this photo in my backyard, that really needed to be mowed. But I'm so glad I didn't! Such beauty is right in front of our eyes- you just have to take the time to look for it! My backyard was filled with these beauties, just waiting for someone to take notice.Time
I took this photo towards the end of the day. The sun was going down, shade creeping in, and at the last moment of sunlight, I realized if you are going to do it, do it now!Lighting
Being at the end of the day, you would think I would think about, and worry about the lighting. However, I was very new to photography, not even concerned or worried that the shot might need help with some special lighting. No, not me. I just wanted to try my new macro lens!Equipment
At the time, I had just bought a Canon Rebel SL. I then bought a macro lens- always being fascinated with close ups, like using a microscope! It was right up my ally!Inspiration
l had wanted to take a photo of a dandelion for a very long time. I would use my little Canon Sure Shot, which took great photos, but not macro. So when I bought the Canon Rebel, and then the macro lens- woo hoo! couldn't wait to find the little treasures in my yard, or someone's yard!! I loved the dandelion as a child- picking them from their little habitat, and blowing the seeds away, as making my wish that I just knew would come true!Editing
I did some post processing on this photo. I slightly sharpened it and added a little color to brighten it. I haven't learned Photoshop as yet, so I used a simple editing program. In my camera bag
In my equipment bag, I carry my camera, and almost always my macro lens. You never know if a bug might be around needing it's picture taken! I also carry various telephoto lenses, and always my cleaning tools!Feedback
My advice for taking this type of photo is, if you are nervous about it, thinking you can't do it, just get out there and try it! Take a hundred shots if you have to. One of them will be that special gem! I used manual focusing on my macro lens and you have to get down in the grass, dirt, by squatting, or even laying down to sneak up on these little beauties! And it doesn't hurt to hold your breath when pushing that button! Never give up- you will get a great shot!
