Location
At my house, outside by our front door on the light fixture.Time
4:37 pm.Lighting
The lighting was better after 4 pm in the afternoon.Equipment
Nikon D300 camera, Sigma 120-300mm 2.8 lens. Milk crates, plywood and a tripod.Inspiration
The robins nested here for the second year in a row. I spent time almost every day shooting so that the robins would get used to me being there. It was exciting to get a second chance to photograph the feeding by the parents and the growth of the babies until they flew out of the nest. I stood on the plywood which was on the milk crates with my equipment and tripod which got me higher and close enough without disturbing them.Editing
I cropped to get close and sharpened some in Lightroom. I also adjusted the white balance. In my camera bag
My Nikon camera, Nikon lenses including a 12-24mm, an 18-300mm, a 70-200mm, an 80-400mm, a 50mm and a fisheye lens, extra cards and battery and my remote shutter release..Feedback
Use a tripod and longer lens so the birds adapt to you being near them. I hope that others get the chance to shoot something like this because it was wonderful. The parents were faithful about feeding them around the clock.
