Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in a small town along the St-Lawrence River, called L'Islet-sur-Mer. It is one of the many villages that dot the south and north banks of the river.

Time

This photo is taken at dusk, late spring 2023. A beautiful sunny day, without wind, but slightly cold.

Lighting

I had to hurry to take this photo to capture the last rays of sun, visible at the top of the bell tower of the chapel, while the sun quickly disappeared behind the mountains of the north shore, on the other side of the river.

Equipment

CAMERA: Sony a7RII. LENS: Sony FE 14mm F1.8 GM. TRIPOD: RRS. BALLHEAD: FLM CB58 FTR. No flash, no filter (the lens does not allow any), Sony Imaging Edge software for remotely controlling the camera with an iPad mini. No cable required.

Inspiration

The chapel is sufficiently iconic, with the vegetation that surrounds it, to impose itself as an unavoidable photographic subject.

Editing

The photo was post-processed first in a RAW development software, then in Photoshop for the final adjustments. Nothing really sophisticated, here, other than basic adjustments.

In my camera bag

Camera : Sony a7RII ; Lenses : Sony 14mm F1.8 GM, Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 with Sigma MC-11 adaptor, Zeiss Distagon 35mm F1.4, Zeiss Sonnar T* 55mm F1.8, Sony 90mm macro F2.8 ; RRS carbon fiber tripod; FLM CB58 FTR ballhead; Filters : Zeiss circular polarisers, Singh Ray ND; Software : Imaging Edge Mobile from Sony with an iPad mini.

Feedback

The photo is too basic to give any advice whatsoever. Just look around with a creative eye to be inspired by the natural beauty of a place.
