The Cormier house is a luxurious bourgeois house of inspiration “Second Empire”, built between 1885 and 1886. The red brick residence has three floors and is located on Saint-Calixthe street, in Plessisville. It was built for the first mayor of the city, Charles Cormier, the cofounder of the local foundry in 1873. He will contribute a lot to the development of the city. After his death, in 1887, his son Napoleon-Charles will live in the house. Napoleon-Charles will also be elected mayor in 1889 and will sit in the Legislative council of the province of Quebec. Sold to the Sisters of the Charity in 1919, the house will serve as a hospital before being bought by the government.
