Behind The Lens

Location

We went to the couple's house, in Rio Verde - GO - Brazil. A small space, but with a gorgeous light from the window.

Time

I've learned that for newborn pictures you must follow the baby's sleep cycle. This shot was in the end of the session, about 11 a.m., when the baby girl was sound asleep.

Lighting

Come on, sun light is the best source of lightning out there, doesn't? The window at 45º from family's front / baby's top head, and gently lightning every detail of that much love. Keep it simple, and eyes open for oportunities is a key to me.

Equipment

A Canon 5D mk II, and the all might 50mm 1.8. =D

Inspiration

Love. Always love. You look to a family like that, and the feeling and natural cuddle comes all the time when you put the camera down, after a "regular shot". So, drop it a bit, but keep the focus button on. And come fast back to the winner click! Pay attention and learn to look for what you want to show in your pictures.

Editing

Yes. BW in Adobe Lightroom, and a bit of skin softening in Adobe Photoshop. Regular techniques found in the web.

In my camera bag

For a NB session I carry my camera, the 50mm 1.8, a pair of flash with radio (when the sun won't show out), and a spare 85mm 1.4 for when I have more space in the shooting place.

Feedback

Learn about baby carryng and confort posing. And practice PNL direction of people. I know you already know techniques for capture and pos-prossesing. To me, the before-click is more important for scenes like this one.
