Location
This photo was taken near Mt. Fuji on a trip to Japan. We were there during the Shibazakura Festival in May when the fields of moss plox are in bloom.Time
We were around Mt. Fuji midday as the festival was unfortunately only open during certain hours. Where we did luck out was in the weather around the mountain. Mt. Fuji has a tendency to be obscured at least somewhat by cloud cover during the time of year we were in Japan so we did not have high hopes for the view we would get. As we got closer to the mountain though we could see that there would be a clear view that day and could not wait to get out there.Lighting
Because we were only able to be at the festival during the middle of the day the lighting did not provide the most dramatic effect, but with the low angle and clear view of the mountain it was able to make up for it.Equipment
This photo was shot on a Pentax K-3 just with the 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 kit lens.Inspiration
My fiance (now wife) and I were taking a trip through Japan and I knew we needed to get a shot of Mt. Fuji as it is one of the most recognizable mountains in the world. When we were planning the trip and looking for places around Mt. Fuji to visit we found out that the Shibazakura Festival would be going on at the same time and provided great views of the mountain. When we got there the flowers were getting towards the end of their bloom and a lot of people were milling around so I had to get a low angle to make sure it was nice and clear. In the end the little but of extra effort really paid off.Editing
Not much was done for this one as the flowers already provided quite a bit of color and the scene was so clear. Mostly just some slight tweaks to shadows and highlights along with a little contrast. In my camera bag
I am still quite new to photography overall so I have minimal equipment still. The only thing I use right now is the Pentax K-3 mentioned before with the kit lens along with a tripod at times. We also got an underwater camera (Ricoh WG-5) for our recent honeymoon as well that I will bring depending on the location.Feedback
The weather around Mt. Fuji can definitely play an important role as most of the time there are at least some clouds obscuring the mountain this time of the year so it is key to make sure you have options on different days that you can try and get the shot and that you have patience waiting for the opportune moment. Fortunately there are so many locations around the world like Mt. Fuji that provide such stunning photos no matter the conditions.
