Behind The Lens

Location

This picture of this massive iceberg was taken in Ferryland Newfoundland Canada.

Time

The picture was taken in the afternoon.

Lighting

It was a beautiful clear day. This was in fact the third time i had made the 2 hour drive to see these huge icebergs. My other attempts were not successful due to heavy fog.

Equipment

I used a Manfrotto Tripod with a Canon 5D MK III and a Sigma 150-600 mm f/5.6-6.3 DG OS HSM lens. I also used a LEE soft graduated ND filter.

Inspiration

I have to admit i was totally excited taking this picture. One cannot appreciate the shear size of these ice mountains. On this particular iceberg a helicopter landed on the end piece of the iceberg and in size comparison it looked like a spec on it. They are so beautiful and really something to see. I just had to capture it with my camera so i could share it with others to see.

Editing

Very little post processing on this as the Lee ND filter really did the trick. I used Adobe Lightroom for the post processing.

In my camera bag

When i hike i pack light. I this case i had my 5D MK III, LEE ND filters, Canon EF 50mm f/1.2 L, EF 24-70mm f.2.8 L , Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM lens and my Manfrotto tripod.

Feedback

I had to hike in along the east coast trail about a 1 km. I took only what i needed so the hike was enjoyable. Once on location i took my time and set everything up. Taking several shots and experimenting a bit. And of course after taking pictures i sat down on the rocks and just took it all in and enjoyed the view.
