Location
I took the photo of the Meerkat at a zoo in the Phoenix area.Time
It was around mid-day and the little was posing perfectly as Meerkats tend to do.Lighting
The overall lighting effect was to give the look of under and above water using Photoshop.Equipment
My standard camera body is a Canon EOS 7D with various lens types used for the various elements.Inspiration
This Photoshop was inspired by my fascination with Meerkats, and the humor they offer as perfect inquisitive models. I just thought it would be completely amusing to have one combined as a fish placed on a rock in the water, peering out over the waves.Editing
There were several elements used in this image for the overall composition including the Meerkat, fins, bubbles, sky, rocks, and various shading techniques, and then a final tint toward aqua.In my camera bag
I carry my fave camera body, a 300mm telephoto lens, macro lens, wide angle lens, 50mm lens, cleaning clothes and cleaning fluid, camera strap, spare batteries, carbon fiber tripod, remote shutter switch, flash, allen-wrench (for removing tripod mount), Canon G12 (point and shoot) and a hat.Feedback
Use your creative mind, let it go. Whatever you can think of, you can create with a camera and image editing software. As you look at your world on a daily basis, ask yourself, "how can I make that shot more interesting or amusing" in post? I often shoot with a certain post-editing idea in mind.
