This was taken in my home studio in Arizona.Time
This is my all time favorite table top photo. I think this was taken at night since I do most of my table setup shots when it's dark and no light coming in the window.Lighting
The photo was taken on top of a curved white sheet of plexiglass which provided some reflection from below. I used daylight bulbs in normal goose neck lamps that clamp onto a frame above and surrounding the model.Equipment
I used a Canon EOS 7D camera with a Cannon prime lens, a carbon fiber tripod with a squeeze release head, and a remote shutter release to ensure no shake.Inspiration
My grandson received a set of red magnets that were shaped like a ball and I was intrigued by it. I borrowed it and grabbed a bunch of screws from my workbench in the garage and commenced attaching them to the ball until I had created this stunning sculpture which was even more stunning once I had captured it digitally. The combination of bright red and chrome/steel screws makes for a very interesting photo. I can't stop looking at it!Editing
I made some small adjustments to the exposure and cleaned up some blemishes on the table, but it's very close to as-is as you see it here.In my camera bag
I always carry my Canon EOS 7D with an extended battery pack, a Canon G12 point and shoot, multiple Canon lenses, a Sigma macro lens, Canon flash, remote shutter release, a camera strap, a carbon fiber tripod, extra memory cards, and cleaning materials.Feedback
Creativity is your best friend for capturing this kind of shot. Check other people's work, alter it and make it your own. Just starting shooting anything and everything because you never know what's going to pop and interest people. I NEVER thought this would turn out to be my fave table top setup, but it has.
