so great that you both were able to go back to one of your favorite places. I would find it very difficult to leave - these sunsets are to 'live' for ! Amazing capture and edit Nina.

Maui, Hawaii is known for it's beautiful sunsets, especially after it rains. I took this photo from the steps of a restaurant in Napili Bay just as the sun dipped below the horizon and created a sun flare that lasted only a few seconds.Time
This photo was taken during the early evening just as the sun was setting.Lighting
I waited until the sun went just below the horizon to capture not only the best light of the "golden hour" but the bright orange colors as well. Recent rain helped intensify these colors because of moisture in the air.Equipment
This photo was taken handheld using my Nikon D750 full frame camera with a 28-300mm Nikkor zoom lens. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
I love photographing sunsets, and Hawaii offers some of the most beautiful ones on a pretty consistent basis. It had rained all day and when the clouds started breaking up I knew that there was probably going to be a better than usual sunset. I wasn't disappointed.Editing
The only post processing done to this photo was a little Lightroom adjustment for clarity and a bit of cropping to better frame the sun flare. In my camera bag
My current camera of choice is a Nikon D750 full frame DSLR. I usually use my Nikkor 28-300mm zoom lens which I find very versatile, especially for traveling. I also have a macro lens, a Nikkor 24-120mm, and a new Nikkor 150-600mm zoom lens that has proven itself to be awesome for photographing birds and wildlife. I always have 2 64gb memory cards in my camera and a spare 32gb card in my bag. In addition, I always carry the following: a fully charged spare battery and battery charger, UV and polarizing filters for all lenses, a Tiffen variable ND filter, the Cokin filter system, a lightweight carbon fiber tripod, a remote release and cleaning supplies.Feedback
Photographing sunsets can be challenging because there are no set rules! They either happen or they don't. However, there are some places where sunsets are more likely to happen than others: one is on the coast, especially after a storm, and also in the American southwest. Patience is key. It's best to arrive about 1/2 early at a particular location and get set up. Sunsets happen quickly....they start, flare, and fade in just a matter of a few minutes. It's nearly impossible to capture the fully beauty of a sunset while driving down the highway.
