There are certain moments in life where I just stop and think to myself, "is this real"? This was one of those days. I captured this photo of a pod of Spinner Dolphins, which I have done a hundred times before, but this was special. The clarity of the water, the shallow depth, the natural lighting that pierced the surface at that exact time of day.
I feel like I am living in a dream sometimes and amidst the mundane, everyday things, like trying to pay the bills or put food on the table, something so amazing will happen that those things just dissapear ... even for those few short minutes. I don't ever want to stop exploring and get in a rut to where I never want to see new things or travel or try something new and exciting. I have witnessed so many people succumb to the entanglement of normalcy over the years. They get so comfortable or indifferent to their circumstances and location in life that they feel trapped. They never feel like they can amount to anything or go beyond their comfort zone (figuratively and literally) and experience new things or new places and people. I can't be that person. I have to keep exploring. I have to keep opening my eyes and my mind wider so that I can see this wonderful world and all the beauty that it holds. I will not let fear trap me and tell me that I can't do, can't go, can't experience something. I hope this inspires you to get out and explore.

Location
This photo was taken on the West side of Oahu, Hawaii, where I make my home.Time
Capturing Hawaiian Spinner Dolphins is best during the early morning hours between 7am and 11am. I took this shot between 8am and 9am.Lighting
As with most of my underwater shots I use Natural Lighting almost exclusively. The only light source in this image is the brilliant sun rays peircing through the water.Equipment
This was shot using a Canon 7DmII, a Tokina 10-17 fisheye, and an Aquatech Elite Housing.Inspiration
There are certain moments in life where I just stop and think to myself, "is this real"? This was one of those days. I captured this photo of a pod of Spinner Dolphins, which I have done a hundred times before, but this was special. The clarity of the water, the shallow depth, the natural lighting that pierced the surface at that exact time of day was truly special. I'm always inspired to capture life in the ocean, especially Cetaceans living wild and free like these Hawaiian Spinners.Editing
I do all of my post-processing in Adobe Lightroom. With my underwater shots I adjust the white balance, contrast, shadows and highlights. In my camera bag
I am usually shooting either underwater or close to the ocean, shooting landscapes and seascapes. This is what I pack in my Lowepro bags: CANON EOS 7D Mark II with EF-S 18-135mm| Tokina AT-X 107 AF NH Fisheye 10-17mm | Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8 | Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 | Oben CT-3581 Carbon Fiber Tripod With BE-126T Ball Head | Aquatech Elite 7D2 Sports Housing | HOYA HD3 CIR-PL and HOYA EVO Antistatic UV filters.Feedback
The best advice I could give is to follow your passion. I know it sounds cliche but it’s true… if photography feels like work to you and it doesn’t fill you up and put a smile on your face then it may not be for you or you just aren’t capturing the right subject matter. I learned early on that portrait photography wasn’t for me and I actually hated it, but once I found my sweet spot shooting underwater then I knew I wanted to do it for the rest of my life. Your sweet spot may be puppies and kittens, newborn babies, or weddings… whatever it is, make sure that it makes you feel good every time you do it.
