Behind The Lens
Location
In the docklands financial district of London.Time
Early afternoon.Lighting
The weather was slightly overcast which meant I could look straight up to the sky without being blinded by the sun. It also made it easier to obtain the correct exposure.Equipment
I used my Nikon D90, handheld with vibration reduction and an 18-105 mm DX Nikkor lensInspiration
I was fascinated by the numerous panels of glass in the various office buildings and their reflections but when I stepped inside this particular building and noticed its glass roof I was aware of the spider's web arrangement and positioned it on the centre of the building beyond to create this abstract pattern.Editing
I applied the minimum of sharpening since my lens produces quite a soft image. In my camera bag
I try to travel as light as possible. My current DSLR is a Nikon D7100 (replacing my D90) with an 18-105mm Nikkor lens plus a 70-300mm Nikkor telephoto lens. I also have an 85mm Nikkor Macro lens plus a ring flash and infra red remote. When necessary, I carry a Vista Voyager tripod - all of which fit into my Lowepro backpack.Feedback
Always be on the lookout for a different point of view and remember to look upwards and downwards as well as at normal eye level. Be aware of patterns and repetitive shapes.
