Behind The Lens

Location

This is the closest thing to a city near where I live, Frederick Maryland

Time

The image was taken very early in the morning of the first snow we had in 2016. It was spitting snow, and as you can see not many people had been around. Those are my tire tracks on the left. I hopped out, turned around and took two images, and jumped back in.

Lighting

Just available street lights!

Equipment

This was handheld 1/8 sec with a 24-70 2.8 Canon lens @ 35mm f2.8 on a 5D mkiii, 400 iso,

Inspiration

Looking in the rear view as I drove, I thought is was a nice comp

Editing

Hated the color version - muddy browns and blues, much nicer in the black and white, with the falling snow revealed in the process.

In my camera bag

I had the 24-70 that morning because it wanted something faster than my normal street lens of a 24-105 f4.

Feedback

Sometimes I think we need to avoid overthinking shots. This was almost an instinct shot in the cold and wintry mix. I looked at the jpeg, and was not impressed, so I moved on, but I am very glad I took the time to try B&W and not just delete the image. As a partly color blind photographer, I second guess myself a lot. More and more tending towards B&W.
