I cannot look forward to capturing a photo like this... none of the Canadian wildlife know how to water ski. Beautiful colour... great capture.

Location
I took this photo down near Denmark in the southern corner of Western Australia. I was just really lucky to be there at the right time. Such a wonderful place to visit.Time
I took this photo at first light one very cold and frosty morning. We were staying at a little lodge in the middle of nowhere that had this very beautiful and very shallow lake. I remember the alarm going off and having to forcing myself to get out of the warmth of bed to go down to the waters edge to take some pics, I was glad I did.Lighting
When i got down to the water the sun was just starting to rise directly in front of me behind the trees on the other side of the lake, which was casting this intense yellow glow over the perfectly flat lake. It really is the best time of day for photography.Equipment
This pic was shot with a Canon 7D with a 17-50 F2.8 zoom lens, with no Tripod.Inspiration
To be honest it was just pure luck that i happened to be there at the right time. I was just happy shooting a few birds that where feeding in the shallows creating beautiful silhouettes and reflections. That when I heard a little noise in the bush just near me. I looked up and there was this guy just starring at me, I went to pull my camera up to get a pic of him when just took off right in front of me and headed across the lake. I followed him with my camera as best i could, just snapping as many pics as i could, i remember thinking if can just get one good one i will be happy. Funny enough there was only this one pic that turned out just right.Editing
Not to much on this one i just did a little cropping and boosted the yellow and oranges a little to match the image in my mind of what the scene was like on the day. I wanted to keep this as close to original as i could. In my camera bag
I try to travel light so generally it just my Canon 7D a single lens and couple of batteries. It causes me to work with what I've got and forces me make the shot work. I also like the freedom it gives me quickly move around. So generally before i head out I just think of where I'm heading to and pic from either my Canon 50mm prime, Canon 100-400mm USM or Tamron 17-50mm lens the just pack it all into to all little carry bag and head off. If I'm not planning on hiking to much ill take along a tripod as well.Feedback
Just get out there cause you never know when your going to be in the right place at the right time. Explore the different times of day and different locations of where you are shooting. But most of all just be patience and enjoy the world around you, try not to get lost behind the lens and enjoy the beauty of what is around you, then magic will cross your path as this kangaroo did for me.
