Behind The Lens
Location
This was taken on my first (and so far, only), trip to the Grand Tetons. I'm definitely looking forward to going back, it's a magical place.Time
This was on my fourth and last day at the Tetons. It had been an amazing adventure and learning experience for me. There hadn't been any "wow" sunsets and the evening this was taken, was looking to be the same. Then, in the last 30-45 minutes, this bank of clouds rolled in and as the sunset, the sky just lit up. It was incredible and a fantastic way to end a fantastic trip.Lighting
This lighting was all mother nature. I just happened to be lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time.Equipment

Everything about the Tetons was inspiring for me. This particular moment was made even more so with such a wonderful display of color from the sunset.Editing
I don't like to post-process much at all. I imagine there's a curves layer, maybe levels and a tiny bit of dodge and burn.In my camera bag

Photos like this really are about placement and timing. Other than that, I try to get the picture as "right" as possible, in camera. I like to feel like I'm at that spot, so I stay away from things that make photos feel a little surreal (HDR, lots of post, etc). I think you just need to study what's in front you (quickly as the sunsets change so fast), and make sure you have it framed well. Then process it the way that suits your tastes.
