Great photo, love your decision to frame the mountain with the bridge. Your choice of black and white for this composition is perfect, your talent is showing : - ))

Thank you. Sadly it was the wrong time of the year for snow. This mountain has had a few "lives" being previously called Mount Egmont before having its Maori name returned and then in a movie as a substitute for Mt Fuji! It is a stunning place.

Stunning piece of engineering, to compliment and contrast with the mountain behind, beautiful composition

Really great shot ! I was there last year and don't remember seeing the volcano. I'm guessing you were shooting from a high point? Love the mood and detail .

Thanks for that. It must have been a hazy day when you were there as Mt Taranaki is the main landmark wherever you go in New Plymouth. I think I actually crouched down when the shot was taken.

Location
Taken at the magnificent Te Rewa Rewa cycle bridge, New Plymouth, New Zealand, during an afternoon walk.Time
Late afternoon on a beautiful sunny day. Sadly the mountain only had a smattering of snow, none the less it still contrasted nicely with the white of the span and the shadows leading towards the mountain.Lighting
Being very sunny it was great to use black and white to emphasize the contrasts, structures and shapes.Equipment
Nikon D700, hand-held, 70-200mm f2.8 lensInspiration
I was inspired by the amazing architecture and Mt Taranaki in the background. The bridge has been built to present a many different aspects, shapes and frames for the scenery and is a work of art in its own right - I just adored it and hoped the photographs would do it justice.Editing
Post processing involved conversion from RAW, and Nik software Silver Efex Pro2 to convert to black and white as color looked very bland. In my camera bag
Nikon D700 and D300s (before it got stolen) 70-200mm and 14-24mm f2.8 Nikon lenses. This will vary depending on the type of shoot I am doing and if my husband is around to cart the heavy gear.Feedback
Firstly don't look at your RAW files and despair - for a long time I had no idea what I was doing and I felt like I was just recording bland snaps UNTIL...I discovered the amount of information contained in these files and how to bring out different "interpretations" of this data. If you have recorded the photos as accurately as you can then you have a gold-mine that you can go on and dig into at a later date. Many of these photos languished on my PC until I learnt enough skills to bring them to life.
