The thing that draws me to the ocean the most is that I literally never know what I’m going to come across on any given day. I count myself extremely fortunate to have been in the right place at the right time to capture this image.
Never have I experienced or seen anything like this in the water or in another photograph. This one will go down as one of the most unique shots I’ve ever captured and I’ll remember it forever.

Love your photos, especially this one. I hope to make it to Hawaii within a year or 2 and get in the water with my camera :)

Location
This photo was taken on the west side of the island of O`ahu, in Hawaii. It's my favorite location for photographing our endangered Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles.Time
I had been in the water since about 8am that day. When I captured this rare behavior it was 2pm.Lighting
Everything I shoot is natural lighting underwater. I only had about 10 seconds to capture this image so I wasn't trying to position myself in any particular way accept to get the shot. The lighting on this shot turned out absolutely beautiful but in all honesty, I had absolutely nothing to do with it. At this time of day I would say that the sun was a little past overhead, headed to the west.Equipment
This was shot using a Canon 7D Mark II | Tokina 10-17 fisheye | Aquatech Elite Water HousingInspiration
I am always inspired every time I jump in the ocean. There are so many wonderful things to see and capture in a photo. I knew that I only had mere seconds to get this shot and I'm so fortunate to be able to freeze something in a frame that I will likely never see again in my lifetime.Editing
I do all of my post-processing in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. The main aspects of the photo I adjust are the white balance, contrast, shadows and highlights. In my camera bag
I am usually shooting either underwater or close to the ocean, shooting landscapes and seascapes. This is what I pack in my Lowepro bags: CANON EOS 7D Mark II with EF-S 18-135mm| Tokina AT-X 107 AF NH Fisheye 10-17mm | Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8 | Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 | Oben CT-3581 Carbon Fiber Tripod With BE-126T Ball Head | Aquatech Elite 7D2 Sports Housing | HOYA HD3 CIR-PL and HOYA EVO Antistatic UV filters.Feedback
I honestly can't advise anyone on how to capture an image like this because it's something that happened in an instant and it will likely never happen again. I would say to capture things in nature that have never been caught on camera before you just have to spend a great deal of time in the elements and be very patient and always be vigilant for things out of the ordinary.
