Location
My son and I were in Normandy, France in the spring of 2013. This photograph is a stairway in the Bayeux Cathedral in Bayeux, France. We were in the basement catacomb of the cathedral and I turned around and saw the light coming down the stone stairs. I realized the scene would make a great black & white image but the low light was going to be a problem. Tripods were not allowed so I had to use a pillar to steady the camera.Time
This was around 2 in the afternoon.Lighting
Perfect light from the cathedral windows came right down the staircase.Equipment
I have a Nikon D-7100 and a Nikkor 18-135mm 1:3.5-5.6 zoom lens. The low light required a 1/20 sec. exposure. Tripods were not allowed in the cathedral so I braced the camera against a pillar. When I got home I used Lightroom, Photoshop, Silver Efex Pro, Perfect Photo Suite 7, and Noiseware Professional.Inspiration
The natural beauty of the stone stairway and the light coming from above. After all, it was a church.Editing
When I got home I used Lightroom, Photoshop, Silver Efex Pro, Perfect Photo Suite 7, and Noiseware Professional. In my camera bag
I have a Nikon D-7100, Nikkor 18-135mm 1:3.5-5.6 zoom lens for most of my work. I also have a Nikkor 70-300mm and an 80-400mm lens. I use a Nikon SB-800 Speedlight flash and a Manfrotto 055MF4 tripod with a 3265 joystick head.Feedback
If you see a great image do whatever you have to to get it.
