Location
Shelly beach is south east of Melbourne down the Mornington Peninsula near Sorrento. Home to some of the most beautiful properties that front the beach with private jetties. Some of the most beautiful private and secluded beaches near Melbourne.Time
It was taken a a fine day with some cloud coverage but overall mostly sunny. Taken at 5.30 pm in the afternoon, On a secluded beach where there are a few private jetties like this one.Lighting
Clouds were moving in, making the lighting nice and giving a great effect. Almost the golden hour, 5.30 pm Taken in August, on a fine day for the end of what is winter in Australia.Equipment
Camera was a 1000D canon EOS ( bottom of the DSLR range, now discontinued) lens was just the kit lens 18-55 F3.5-5.6 and a tripod used. I was learning and playing with long exposures that day. Setting were ISO 100 18mm at F22 for 20 seconds.Inspiration
My inspiration was the beautiful colours that contrasted with each other. It was so peaceful and quite i liked the tranquillity of the place and i think that shows in the capture. I love the few scattered stones scattered in the foreground (bottom left)Editing
Very little post processing as i have no skills with this yet. I did straighten the horizon and sharpen it a little but nothing else. Thats about where my post processing skills end sadly. In my camera bag
This was when i first started so things have changed a little for me with new equipment. Now i normally carry: Canon1000D (original camera) and my new camera is Canon 6 D new camera 2 spare batteries. Lens 24-70 F2.8, 16-35 F2.8 and 70-200 F4 Polarising and ND400 Lee filters ( not used for this picture) Tripod. A few spare SD cards.Feedback
Find a great location and visit it several times, different times of year and different times of the day to get a good feel of what time would make a great shot. Give yourself plenty of time, you can't rush nature. Try looking at different heights and levels to get the best picture. Most of all enjoy yourself as this will show in your pictures.
