This is a composite image of 50 reverse stacked images from a time lapse. It settles the ocean waves and in the end reveals the star burst effect from the high quality lens (Canon 16-35 f-2.8 II which was rented from ATS Rentals) and high aperture of f-11. A colored vignette was added to give it more drama.
In the time lapse on Youtube (http:--youtu.be-cjkZAn4vnrw), a small sand crab appeared as the sun was rising on the sand. The time lapse makes him appear as if he was dancing to the sunrise

Location

I captured this composition under the Little Island City Park at Sandbridge Beach, Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Time

I took this at Sunrise, May 5 at 6:05 AM EST

Lighting

The high offshore clouds had just enough reflection to give the scene great warmth and composition. The Sun's reflection off of the water lightened underneath the pier, and the Sun cast nice shadows of the pilings.

Equipment

Canon EOS Rebel T2i (with Magic Lantern intervalometer) Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM at f/11 Manfrotto 190 More tripod No flash.

Inspiration

Using The Photographers Ephemeris, I wanted to capture the Sunrise as rose through the pilings. I had rented the 16-35 mm "L" lens from ATS Rentals for the long weekend, and this was to be the coup de gras before its return home.

Editing

Prior to stacking, I edited the images in Lightroom 5 to adjust the whites and highlights and add a darkening gradient to the top. Then, the 50 images were (reverse) average stacked in StarStaX to flatten out the surf with the end frame being the best Sun exposure. The resultant image was edited in Nik Color Efex (glow) and Lightroom (vignette).

Feedback

Use The Photographers Ephemeris to estimate the dates and times of the Sunrise and location. Typically, you have one to two days (twice a year) to capture a shot like this. I was lucky to have such good weather because my alternate day (following) was overcast.
