The photo I took at a sea side friend's home balcony, that holds an oriental catering service. I came to shoot a sushi book for the catering FB page. Ended up satitated... This is certainly one of favorite photos. Bat Galim - HaifaTime
I love using indoor natural light (windows), and as Mediterranean summer sun is too strong, that gives at max something like a two hours at dusk.Lighting
The natural light setup is combined of two large perpendicular diffusing windows, that illuminate the back and the sides of the scene. actually the plate is located below the windows lower bound. That is what gives the item its glow and depth. What is missing is the dark red tuna upfront - for this i used an low intensity artificial light from hot shoe.Equipment
I came to this set with all my equipment, but as I always do I used only my 85mm on the 5DmkII. Results were good but i looked for something different, so i tried a wider POV, attaching the 16-35mm tried several focal length till I was satisfied (with the photo I mean). had a tripod and hot shoe.Inspiration
I did some food photography prior to this job, and wanted to create something different. We have seen very sophisticated compositions of table and plates setups which are very trendy now, and I wanted to keep it simple (though I tried some complex compositions, some came out not too bad ;) ). I felt that the cutting board is a better platform then the plates, more authentic and simple. Well, that is an ordered Job...Editing
Some sharpening and contrast enhancement. In my camera bag
Depending on my carrying possibilities i take: Canon 5D mkII & mkIII (would like to have the mkIV) EF 11-24 F/4 EF 16-35 F/2.8 EF 24-70 F/2.8 EF 85 F/1.2Feedback
I will just propose to use the real Item with natural light and not trying to over do the composing of the scene
