It's Shallow and Beautiful
This competition seeks to celebrate the art of using a narrow depth of field to bring emphasis to a chosen subject, creating a distinct separation from a softly blurred background. We invite you to showcase your ability to manipulate focus and depth in your photographs, capturing images that tell a story through their striking contrast. Submit your best works and join us in this exploration of photographic finesse.
Choose The Right Lens
When seeking a lens to capture images with a pronounced shallow depth of field, there are several key factors to consider. Foremost, the aperture is pivotal; a lens with a wide maximum aperture (such as f/1.4, f/1.8, or f/2) allows more light to hit the sensor and creates a narrower depth of field, resulting in that coveted blurred background or 'bokeh' effect. Additionally, the focal length plays a role; longer lenses, like an 85mm or 135mm, can offer a more compressed perspective and pronounced bokeh. However, a 50mm lens, often referred to as a 'nifty fifty,' is a versatile choice for many due to its balance between wide aperture capability and focal length.
