rock art amazes me, you can see them almost anywhere...who builds them, they just show up. Kind of like crop circles. Its a mystery. Nice capture

Hi Diana, I live by a river (Gatineau river in Wakefield, Quebec in Canada) and every Spring a local resident builds these magnificent Inukshuks throughout the river. The Inuit and Tunit (Inuit from Cape Dorset) used Inukshuk to mark trails, indicate cashes of food, location of nearby settlements and the location of good places to hunt or fish. They are stone figures for different purposes: to show directions to travellers, to warn of impeding danger, to mark a place of respect, or as mentioned earlier to help in the hunting or fishing. It also symbolizes the fortitude & determination of the Inuit. Although made of inanimate rock the Inukshuk embodies the spirit and persistence of the Inuit who live and flourish in one of the world's harshest environments.
