Seen here is a Great Egret in flight, shortly after takeoff from the marshy waters of the Currituck Sound. This Egret was looking to find an early morning meal along the shoreline, and had been making his way north along the coastline.

Great Egrets can be found in either fresh or salt water locations, and like to hunt fish, frogs and many other of the small animals found in those waters. These birds will walk slowly through the water (or stand quietly) waiting for fish to pass by before springing their long neck forward to catch their prey. *
