This is Napoleon, the Carolina Raptor Center's newest Eastern Screech Owl. He's said to be a very small but feisty bird, and was named after the French conqueror for his small size but extra large personality. Napoleon has only been in residence at the center since 2017, and shares a home with two other screech owls: Akai and Ringo.

Screech owls make a number of different sounds, including both territorial and mating calls. They are also well know for the loud screech they will make in defense when attacked. Their habitats are extremely varied, and include open woodlands close to fields and meadows, and also old apple orchards.
