The banks of the bayous, the sides of the highways, and cow pastures all over the state are prime growing spots for Texas bluebonnets, here in the foreground of this photo, and Indian Paintbrush, the red in the background. They are the quintessential Texas wildflowers (in fact, bluebonnets are our state flower), and together with bright yellow sunflowers and sweet pink buttercups, they turn the greens of our bayous and roadways and pastures into a riot of color.
