Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the car park of Thunder Point in Warrnambool, Victoria - (South West Victoria) It was quite a windy day, which explains why the waves were crashing so much against the rocks.

Time

It was taken during the mid morning as I was out on one of my walks. I saw that I couldn't just walk away, without taking a photo of those rough ocean waves.

Lighting

As the photo indicates, even though there was a gusty wind at the time, it was quite sunny. So the image was take in full sunlight.

Equipment

At the time, I had my Samsung DV180F camera. This is just your standard digital camera, which means it's quite compact for easy carrying. It's not quite as good as my Nikon D3400 DSLR camera, but easier to carry when out and about...without having to lug a lot of equipment.

Inspiration

I have always loved the beach and being able to capture different aspects of it....crashing waves, the stillness of the water, the different colors of the water in every lighting situation, fascinates me. I was glad I was able to capture this photo of the waves pounding the rocks, birds flying low almost touching the water was and opportunity I couldn't walk away from.

Editing

Yes, I did some post-processing in Lightroom. I altered the tone from cold to slightly warmer. Then went through the other sliders to give it more clarity. There was a slight alteration to the hues, saturation sliders to make the colors more realistic.

In my camera bag

I normally have my Nikon D3400 DSLR camera, kit lens (18-55mm) and 70-300mm lens. I don't bother carrying too much gear as I usually take photos from the roadside. It would be too much of a hassle to set up a tripod, so I mainly avoid that option.

Feedback

Basically...carry your camera with you when you can, because you never know when you come upon a photographic moment that you want to remember.
