Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at home, as a tryout for self boudoir/glamour photography. I was so intrigued by the expression on my face, that I felt it should be share as it was a unique photo.

Time

This photo was taken in the late afternoon.

Lighting

I used the bokeh effect to give the photo a certain softness and dreamy appearance, which suited the photo. The only light that was used was the sunlight that was streaming from the open blind. I didn't want to drown the room with a lot of light but wanted just enough to suit the situation.

Equipment

I used my Nikon D3400 and a tripod. I also used the timer function on the camera, so I would be able to pose freely, without having to try to hide a remote.

Inspiration

I was trying to do a self boudoir/glamour photoshoot, and experimenting with the different poses I had found while researching this genre. This pose was something I wanted to try but wasn't sure it would come out as good as it had. Especially when I was racing against the timer to get into my poses.

Editing

I did do some editing. I had to remove the noise from the photo due to having a high ISO setting. I found an editor online that allowed me to do this, but it also gave the photo an almost painted effect. Then I just soften it slightly in Photoshop, added the bokeh effect and completed the look to produce the final product.

In my camera bag

I only have my Nikon D3400, 2 lenses (70-300mm and my kit lens 18-55mm). I also carry my filter lens - ND etc...which I don't really use as I rely on the settings of my camera mainly. I have spare SD cards and my battery charger as well.

Feedback

No really...only to have fun with being in front of the camera if taking self-portraits. Try to experiment with poses that you feel comfortable with and enjoy the experience. Sometimes without knowing, we might take a photo that may be just what you needed.
