We were out driving one night when we saw this sunset, so we ripped home and grabbed our cameras, and headed out to hopefully make it. Well we got there just as it was setting below the horizon, and came out with this beaut.

Great perspective, low down, shades well displayed. Just a great photo using not overdone HDR. Cheers

Love the colors & how you used the tracks as leading lines into the foto. Good capture

Location
I took this photo in the countryside not far from Edmonton. Sunsets are one of my favourite things in the universe, so I've spent a lot of time chasing them down for the perfect moment.Time
This photo was taken somewhere around 9:30 or 10 pm. Summers days in Edmonton are long, sometimes up to 18 hours of sunlight. I remember looking at the sky and being captivated by the colour in the clouds so my girlfriend and I grabbed our cameras, hopped into the car and sped out to the country. We chased it down a long dirt range road and came upon the railroad tracks. I hadn't taken a sunset photo with railroad tracks and decided to set up there. For a few minutes, it looked as if the world had set on fire.Lighting
When photographing a sunset, I've given myself two rules. Always show up 15 minutes before golden hour and don't ever leave until the sun sinks beyond the horizon. I find the very beginning and the very end of sunsets are the most brilliant. Clouds can appear and disappear so never cut yourself short because in my own opinion, that's where the most animation and contrast comes in the sky. It's when the purple, red and pink clouds light up, that's when you'll get your best shots.Equipment
This particular photo was shot on a Canon 7D, 11-16mm 2.8/ Tokina ultra wide lens. No tripod.Inspiration
Sometimes you just look up and that's all the inspiration you need. And sometimes, you find the hidden gems if you go looking for them.Editing
I was in a huge phase of HDR at the time. This was 3 photos bracketed 1EV apart. I used Photomatix to merge and edit the images. A few layer masks of colour and contrast in PS but minor adjustments. In my camera bag
No matter what's in my bag, you will always find my Canon 16-35mm 2.8/ lens. It's one of the best things you could carry for landscapes. Secondly, I always make sure to pack a Canon 70-200mm 2.8/ lens for anything I wanna get close to without getting too close. And finally, obviously, I always have my Canon 5D mark iii. I love the full frame and find my 7D doesn't put out the quality I wanted (even though this was shot on a 7D. Could you imagine the full frame?!)Feedback
Anytime your chasing a sunset, you just have to let yourself run wild. Exploreenvironments that enhance the sunset as opposed to distract you from it. Go where no one else will go and make a habit of sunset times. The best parts about sunsets are you can do them anywhere, almost any day with any camera. Just have to get up and go! :)
