Behind The Lens

Location

I shot this at one of the many beautiful alpine lakes in an area of Washington called The Enchantments. Located near Leavenworth it's a grueling 9-mile hike to get to this spot...but well worth it!

Time

It was a late September afternoon when I shot this. The fall colors were amazing, especially the larch trees in the area.

Lighting

This trip was memorable for many reasons, one being the forest fires nearby. It created an eerie haze for this shot and others.

Equipment

The camera I used on this hike was my old Sony NEX-3. No flash, no tripod. f/11, 1/125sec, ISO200.

Inspiration

To camp in this area you need to win a permit via a state lottery. It's become more difficult over the years to win one of these permits because this area is so popular, especially for landscape photographers. If you're lucky enough to win one and fit enough to complete the hike you're rewarded with views like this...easy to be "inspired" in The Enchantments!

Editing

Editing done in Lightroom.

I normally carry a Nikon D750, Tamron 24-70mm G2 lens, Nikon 20mm prime, filters, tripod.
