Behind The Lens

Location

Multnomah Falls near Portland, Oregon.

Time

I shot this at 12:36pm, April 28, 2018.

Lighting

Thankfully the lighting that day was perfect, sunny with a few clouds to calm down the harsh shadows.

Equipment

Nikon D750, Nikon 20mm lens.

Inspiration

It's pretty easy to be inspired by Multnomah Falls. I grew up not far from the falls (Camas, Washington) but this is the first time I went there with the primary purpose to shoot it. A fire devastated the area in September, 2017 (Eagle Creek fire) and the trail to the bridge was still closed to repair the fire damage. Usually there are plenty of people on that bridge.

Editing

Minimal editing in Lightroom.

In my camera bag

Nikon D750, Tamron 24-70mm g2 lens, Nikon 20mm lens, filters, tripod.

Feedback

Slowing the shutter speed to capture flowing water is common and for good reason, we love the "cotton candy" effect. However, doing this with our digital cameras gives the water an unnatural spike in the color blue. I always decrease the blue in editing to return the water to a more natural look.
