Behind The Lens

Location

I took this picture in Namibia and more precisely at Harnas Wildlife Foundation. For the last 30 years, Harnas has been actively involved in the care, rehabilitation and rescue of neglected, abused and abandoned animal.

Time

It was mid afternoon when I took this picture, a mid afternoon of August and in Namibia August means winter, short days.

Lighting

Being mid afternoon of a winter day, the sun was already going down and the light getting that kind of orange, which gives warmth to the colors. That is the perfect light to shoot.

Equipment

For this picture I used my Nikon D600. The lens used is a Nikkor zoom 70/200 F2,8. No tripod, no flash, just natural light.

Inspiration

This is the 3rd time I go to Harnas Wildlife Foundation. There are always lots of cheetas and people at Harnas give the opportunity, to some photographers, to walk and interact with these beautiful animals. I knew what I wanted, but not sure to get it. When you are with these animals, inspiration comes according to their movement. Just walk with them, let them go around you, coming toward you and keep shooting.

Editing

I am very poor at editing, so I try to the less possible. Here I adjusted a bit the contrast and framed it properly.

In my camera bag

My camera is a Nikin D600. The lenses I mostly use are: Nikkor zoom 70/200 F2,8, Nikkor zoom 24/70 F 2,8. I sometimes use also a Nikkor 50 F 1,8 and a Nikkor 14 F 2,8.

Feedback

Patience is the first rule to take that one pictures. Then trying to get the best light, in general early morning or sunset. A decent aquipment, take more care at the lenses than the camera itself and a bit of luck, which, sometimes, is also an important part of our hobby.
