Behind The Lens

Location

This is taken at Osavatnet, in Bergen, Norway, a popular area for hiking and skiing, and normally quite crowded. Luckily for us, we had a rather fierce snowstorm going on, so we had the whole area right to ourselves! We walked around for a bit, but the snow was quite heavy and the snow-filled wind quite harsh, so we didn't go that far before we took a break and played some in the snow. The dog, Vaffel, is not a typical winterdog but he has a heavy coat and enjoys being out in the cold. He played around us for a bit, then settled down and lied posing for us with the wind and snow flying around him.

Time

It must have been around 12-14ish, as earlier or later it would have been too dark.

Lighting

The heavy clouds and the snow made the sky somewhat dark, yet still quite bright from all the white covering the mountainsides. It pretty much felt like living in a (windy) softbox! Our biggest issue was the lenses got covered in powderlike snow as the snowfilled wind was coming at us from all directions.

Equipment

Had my Nikon D750 with the 70-200 2.8 lens.

Inspiration

I absolutely love snow! We went up in the mountains because of the snowstorm, and hoped to be able to capture Vaffel playing or posing with snow flying around him, and we did!

Editing

Sharpened it up a bit, and corrected the exposure somewhat, but haven't done much more than that.

In my camera bag

I always bring my d750, wherever I go, and normally with my 24-70 2.8 attatched. As I pretty much always also bring my dog, I pretty much always also bring my 70-200 2.8 which is brilliant for dogphotography! I quite often also bring my wideangle 14-24 2.8, it's hysterically fun to photograph dogs (or other animals) with this! And then I normally sneak at least one prime into the bag, 35 1.4, 50 1.4 or 85 1.8, I love them all.

Feedback

Do not be afraid to go out in "bad weather"! A bit of wind and clouds make magnificent images! Do it!
