Behind The Lens
Location
The photo is a mixture of two environments. The derelict room was part of an old hospital that was being knocked down to make way for new flats. I knew the contractor who was doing the demolition and he allowed me access to the site, prior to knocking it down. The Model in the chair was shot in a studio environment.Time
This is probably one of my favourite images that I have created so far. The light shining through the window in late afternoon, portraying an even more serene feeling of emptiness and loneliness.Lighting
The lighting of the room is all natural, no fill flash at all. The lighting on the Model is studio lighting from a similar angle (left) with a small light from above to reduce shadows.Equipment
My camera is a Canon 1100d . Room image was taken a couple of years ago using 18-55mm kit lens, camera mounted on a tripod so as not to get shake for the 0.6 second exposure. Model image was hand held, using my new 17-85mm lens. 1/125 F5Inspiration
I knew I had some room images on my hard drive, so that wasn't an issue in getting a background that was gritty & had feeling. What I set out to achieve was an "Easter" themed image but steering away from the clique of Bunny Girl type .... I wanted to imagine what life is like after the Easter Bunny has done her work for the holiday periodEditing
This image is a merger of 2 separate images, so Photoshop was used to create the finished example. For the room image I exaggerated the detail quite high, and unusually for a model image, I also increased the detail slightly as I wanted to show the tones , rather than soften & beautifying the female form. Then merged the 2 images using layers. In my camera bag
My bag contains nearly everything I might need for a photography escapade & all of it lives in my bag all the time (Yes it can get a tad heavy if on my back for more than a few hours at a time) Camera = Canon 1100d with battery pack for 2 batteries. 4 spare batteries. 3 spare SD cards. Canon 17-85mm F4.5-F5.6 lens. Canon 50mm F1.8 Lens. Sigma 150-600mm F5-F6.3 Lens. Mono-Pod & Tripod. Hi-Viz vest. Rain Covers. Filters. I have a 650-1300mm lens if I need it for a situation, but it doesn't fit in bag, so has its' own carry case.Feedback
If you have an idea, remember that it doesn't have to be achieved in one photo.
